The aim of the association is to promote and encourage Gardening and help all members to achieve the results they would hope for. The association is not just for allotment holders but for all residents of Alsager, and if they wish people from the surrounding area. In order to encourage members we hold annually a Show in the Civic Centre. The Show has an Open Section for the regular show entrants but we also have a members section to encourage first time or just hobby gardeners to show their produce. Vegetables and flowers are included and for the last few years the show has been expanded to include Handicraft. As you will see by the accompanying letter we also offer members the opportunity to purchase seeds at very competitive prices. The seeds purchased through the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners (NSLG) supplied by King's seeds and cover all types of vegetables and flowers you could ask for. The association also managers on behalf of Congleton Borough Council (CBC) the four allotment sites, i.e. Lawton Road, Cedar Avenue, Talke Road & Coronation Avenue. For this service the CBC allow us a reduced allotment rent that we collect from allotment holders via the trading hut. If we did not undertake this service allotment rents would be double the cost we charge. We also manage the letting of allotments and seek to ensure that members cultivate them and generally keep them in good order. As part of the membership of the association all Allotment holders are covered by insurance from NSLG for third party claims, a expense if taken out privately. In conjunction with the Alsager Town council we also jointly run the Best Kept Gardens and Allotments Competition again trying to encourage all gardening activities. |
